A Deep Clean and Fast Refresh of My Girls’ Room

I’ve been very busy for the last five years. WIth young kids at home, a full-time business, a basement renovation, Foster Care, and a surprise baby (see post), there was basically zero time for anything but survival.

Fast-forward to the last month and my Etsy Shop being put on vacation, I suddenly find I have a minute to breathe. I can think about organization a little more and get around to deep cleaning those places of my home that have been lacking.

Today I decided to tackle the girls’ room. My eleven-year-old and five-year-old currently share a room. It’s small and I’ve struggled to keep it as clutter-free as the other places in my home. (One thing about living in a small home is that you cannot have clutter!). I have to be very intentional about what we keep and what we get rid of. Unfortunately, my girls’ room has suffered from the attention it needs.

I have found that in small spaces, it’s helpful to use the only asset you have - height. Hence these cheap shelves and these brackets from Ikea above the bed. They’re not pretty, but they are so affordable and functional.

Also, do you see the drawers under the bed? I have found that these are essential to keeping the girls' clothes somewhat organized. If you don’t have something like this, here are some under-the-bed storage ideas.

Wayfair - Underbed Storage Drawer

The Container Store - Zippered Storage Bag

Amazon - Underbed Storage
